Important Illinois Constitutional Change In Illinois, it is important for union members to Vote Yes for the Workers’ Rights Amendment. The amendment would enshrine collective bargaining and the ability to negotiate hours, wages and working conditions in Illinois' constitution for all workers in both the private and public sectors. Lawmakers approved putting the measure on the ballot during the 2021 spring session. The resolution passed both chambers with bipartisan support: 49-7 in the Senate and 80-30 in the House. Illinois Supreme Court There are two Illinois Supreme Court Justices up for election. It is important to vote in these pivotal races. In Washington, we have all seen the impact new Justices can have on decisions that are important to all Americans.

IBEW 21 members have strength in numbers. We must use our strength to win good pay, retirement security, safe work environments, broad access to quality education for our children and much more. By mobilizing through our get-out-the-vote effort, we can elect candidates who support and will enact a working families’ agenda so we all can move forward together. We do make a difference. After all of the campaign rhetoric, we must elect the candidates who best serve the interests of working people. We must not let wedge issues divide us. IBEW members across Illinois have the opportunity to change our Constitution by voting in favor of the Illinois Worker’s Rights Amendment. The Workers’ Rights Amendment will be the first question on the November ballot. A “yes” vote means you are voting to enshrine workers’ rights into our Illinois Constitution

October 19, 2022 - The membership of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 21 employed by Comcast have voted to accept the tentative agreement that was reached on October 6, 2022. IBEW members covered by the new two-year pact will receive a first year weekly wage rate increase that averages 6%, with retroactive pay back to October 1, 2022. The agreement boosts standby pay, adds Juneteenth as a holiday, and includes other contractual gains. We congratulate our Sisters and Brothers on this historical agreement. This is the first time a new Comcast contract was reached and accepted within thirty days of a contract expiration date. The officers and staff of IBEW 21 would like to thank our members for their hard work, solidarity, attendance at the contract explanation meetings, and ultimate acceptance of the contract.

At the last bargaining session City negotiators passed a meaningful parental leave proposal that would significantly enhance the leave time. While we view the proposal as positive, we still have a long list of both economic and non-economic Union proposals that need to be discussed including wage increases. Sisters and Brothers, as we move ever so close to the years year's end, bargaining will intensify. Like you, your bargaining committee is locked in demanding that the City recognizes your hard-work with a fair agreement. We are Public Safety. We must continue to stay relentless to fight the good fight for fairness and justice. The next bargaining session is scheduled for October 20, 2022.
