Surplus Declared for Marketing Support Specialists in Springfield
On April 16, 2026, AT&T notified the IBEW 21 of a surplus impacting 17 Marketing Support Specialists (MSS)and the closing of an office Center at 555 E Cook in Springfield, Illinois. Affected employees were notified the following day.
While the company frames these decisions as operational adjustments, the reality is that 17 skilled workers are now facing uncertainty. These are not just numbers on a report, but individuals who have contributed to the company’s success and stability.
This declaration also triggers the timeline for any additional employees who may wish to volunteer for a VSIPP. Those interested must submit their names no later than Friday, April 24, 2026.
The Union remains concerned about the continued use of surplus declarations and the impact they have on job security, morale, and the long-term strength of the workforce. Decisions like these raise serious questions about priorities, especially when experienced employees are being displaced.
We encourage all affected members and those considering their options to stay informed and reach out to their Union representatives with any questions. The Union will continue to monitor this situation closely and advocate for fair treatment and transparency throughout this process.
In solidarity.
