IBEW 21 City of Chicago OEMC Unit II Negotiations – Update #1

June 27, 2022

IBEW Local Union 21 and SEIU opened Unit 2 OEMC contract negotiations with the City of Chicago. We passed a series of Economic and Non-Economic proposals that reflect your sacrifices during the COVID-19 pandemic and your hard-work as Essential Public Safety Workers who are also dealing with soaring cost of living expenses. The City did not pass any proposals and offered no responses to the offers we laid on the table.

Our proposals include and are not limited to the following:

Wage increases with retroactivity, shift differentials, grade increases, pandemic hazard pay (lump sum bonus), increases in vacation time, vacation language improvements, deferred compensation increases, traumatic occurrences (mental health days), first responders, overtime, compensatory time (optional all worked overtime hours), holidays, retiree health-care, bereavement pay, recognition, management rights, union security, grievance and arbitration, filling of vacancies, safety, training, drug/alcohol program, and COVID-19 vaccination policy.

Our next bargaining dates are scheduled for August 3rd,19th,September 8th,and 29th.

We must unite and stand as one unified body. The City simply will not yield to the terms of our proposals. Your bargaining committee must have the support of all of our members to make it clear that we deserve a fair contract and that we are unified in our demands.

If you need more information, please contact IBEW Local 21 Stewards who are part of your Bargaining Committee or IBEW 21 Business Representative Jerry Rankins, (630) 222-9100.
