Thursday November 1, 2012 - AT&T announced they would like IBEW Local 21 members to accept a voluntary work assignment in Ohio to assist in restoring service in areas affected by Hurricane Sandy. The details of the work assignment are still being finalized and could change, as more information on the magnitude the storm’s destruction is known. What we do know is the detail will last a minimum of two weeks and the company will begin canvasing working locations for volunteers by seniority.
We are proud our members have been asked to help repair the devastation caused by the storm. We have spoken with CWA representatives whose members work in the regions affected by the hurricane. There are no labor disputes in Ohio. We agreed to the voluntary work detail because in this time of need we feel it is our obligation to help rebuild our Country and help those whose lives have been torn apart by the storm. We will work in solidarity alongside CWA members.
We remind all members who accept the temporary assignment to be aware of their surroundings and work safely. Be on the lookout for potential power hazards. Follow all company safety practices as they relate to the cleanup.
AT&T canceled their plans to detail IBEW Local 21 members to California.
