City of Chicago OEMC Vacations Canceled
Mar 30, 2020

March 30, 2020 11:00 AM

Just as we were sending the last City of Chicago 911 OEMC COVID-19 release representatives of IBEW Local 21 were notified that because of the unpredicted number of absences due to the effects of COVID-19, FMLA leaves and other reasons the City cannot grant PCOs vacations. This decision will affect PCOs with the following furloughs: Segment 4B, Full 5, and Segment 5A.  Representatives from the City will contact employees if the cancelations need to go beyond 5A.  If staffing numbers improve the City stated that they will reconsider their decision.

It is anticipated that staffing numbers will continue to decrease and the City stated that they must take this measure to continue to provide essential 911 services to the residents of Chicago.

Anyone who has a vacation cancelled will be told to work with their manager to try and schedule time off later in the year, they have been empowered to grant time off where possible.

Remember that all of us who count on you appreciate all of your hard work during this crisis.  In this time of need we all are pulling together in unity to assist our families, friends, neighbors, coworkers and the individuals who need us the most. It is because of you those who are suffering are able to get the lifesaving help they need.
