Oct 26, 2012 - Details and AT&T's California Labor Dispute
May 05, 2015

Friday October 26, 2012 - Recently IBEW Local Union 21 members were asked to volunteer to work on a six-week detail assignment in California.  Since the voluntary assignment was announced your Local 21 leadership has been in contact with both AT&T management and the leaders of CWA District 9.  After talking to both sides we understand CWA District 9 bargaining has stalled.

The CWA District 9 negotiations have been so contentious that in August their membership went on a two day Unfair Labor Practice Strike.  While CWA District 9 is not on strike there is still labor unrest in California.  You can find more about the negotiations on the CWA District 9 website. You can go there now by clicking here.

All IBEW Local Union 21 members who volunteered for the detail to California have to ask themselves is it worth it to voluntarily insert yourself into the California labor dispute by crossing over and working in an area where there is known labor unrest.

The leadership of IBEW Local Union 21 cannot make this decision for you.  It’s gut check time. Ask yourself; in 2013 if we are in the midst of tenuous negotiations would you want someone else to perform your work.

We stand in solidarity with our CWA Brothers and Sisters.
