IBEW 21 Members Asked to Assist in Hurricane Isaac Clean Up
May 05, 2015

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Tomorrow Friday August 31, 2012, AT&T management will be asking IBEW Local 21 members to volunteer for a temporary assignment to perform installation and maintenance work in the Southern states that received heavy damage due to Hurricane Isaac.

IBEW Local 21 representatives were notified earlier this afternoon the company needs approximately 100 of our members to assist in the clean-up efforts.  The temporary assignment is expected to last 3-6 weeks.  Travel to Louisiana, Mississippi, or other Southern states based on storm damage, will occur as soon as possible, but not before Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

Technicians will be asked to commit to stay the entire time of the temporary assignment except for authorized trips home, if requested. Trips home will be handled in accordance with the IBEW Labor Agreement.

Shifts are expected to begin at 8:00 a.m. but are subject to change depending on the needs of the business. The technicians will work the hours that are required by the business, which can include overtime and weekend work. No specific amount of overtime hours is guaranteed.  All members will be covered by the terms and conditions outlined in the IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement with AT&T.

AT&T management will have further information regarding the assignment when they canvas for volunteers.  If the number of qualified volunteers exceeds the number needed, selection will be made on the basis of seniority.

More information on the assignment will be known after the storm has passed and the extent of the damage is evaluated.  We remind all members who accept the temporary assignment to be aware of their surroundings to work safely and follow all company safety practices as they relate to the clean-up.

Solidarity!
