IBEW Local Union 21 Endorses Gery Chico for Chicago Mayor
February 11, 2011- Our leadership feels Mr. Chico possesses the necessary qualities required to face the challenges that lie ahead and is uniquely qualified to move the city forward during these difficult times. Unlike some other Mayoral candidates who have chosen to demonize hard working Union members in Chicago, Gery Chico has embraced Labor and has pledged to bargain in good faith in all future negotiations. This has been proven with his history of negotiations with Chicago Park District and Public School employees
In conjunction with the Chicago Federation of Labor we also made endorsements in many Aldermanic races. We ask that you consider supporting those candidates as well. To find a list of endorsed aldermanic candidates click here.
If you or a family member is interested in volunteering to work on any of these campaigns, please contact IBEW Local 21 Political Director Dennis McCafferty at (708)227-0973 or email him now by clicking here.
IBEW Local 21 has become a growingly active participant in the political arena. Protecting our various contracts and working conditions from adverse legislation is a reality in today's anti-union environment.
The IBEW Local 21 Committee on Political Education (C.O.P.E.) department is charged with the responsibility of:
Monitoring legislation that affects Local 21 members;
Identifying pro-worker candidates;
Lobbying on Local 21's behalf;
Maintaining a PAC fund separate from the Local Union 21 treasury;
Growing and maintaining a member volunteer list of political activists;
Registering members and their families to vote; and
Supporting members of our Local who run for political office.
The IBEW Local 21 (C.O.P.E.) works in partnership with the Illinois and Indiana AFL-CIO, our IBEW International in Washington D.C. and belongs to numerous Central Labor Committees (C.L.C.).
IBEW Local 21's most important asset is our membership. When an issue important to working families is identified and Local 21 requests members to act, by placing a telephone call, write a letter, or E-Mail legislators it is more effective than any lobbyist or Union official.
We invite you to register to vote, join the fight, and get involved. If you are employed by AT&;T, we encourage you to sign up for payroll deduction. In addition, we invite you to join our growing list of volunteer IBEW Local 21 political activists.
