Illinois General Election Endorsements
On June 6, 2006, President-Business Manager Ronald Kastner and COPE Director Rosetta Shinn attended the AFL-CIO endorsement session in Springfield Illinois.
Nearly one million union members in Illinois were represented by the voting delegates at the session. There was a very heated debate among delegates regarding a possible endorsement of Melissa Bean. When that discussion ended, the decision was made to not endorse Ms. Bean because of her anti-worker vote in 2005 for CAFTA.
The 2006 General Election Endorsements includes Rod Blagojevich for a second term as Illinois Governor. In the following months, many of the endorsed candidates will be invited to attend and speak to the membership at various IBEW Local 21 unit meetings.
The General Election is Tuesday, November 7, 2006. For a complete list of 2006 COPE Endorsements, check out the Illinois AFL-CIO’s website at http://www.ilafl-cio.org, and once there, go to the Political section of the site.
